OTTAWA HILLS PRODUCT JOINS FERRIS WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Danielle Davis To Compete For The Bulldogs Starting In 2007-08

The Ferris State University women's basketball program has added prep guard/forward and Grand Rapids native Danielle Davis (Ottawa Hills), to its recruiting class for the 2007-08 campaign, according to an announcement made today by FSU head coach Tracey Dorow, (formerly Bloodworth-Fisk).

Danielle Davis The 5-8 Davis, who is already enrolled in classes at FSU, concluded her prep elgibility by leading Grand Rapids' Ottawa Hills High School to a district championship as a senior in the fall 2006 season. She also helped the squad post a 22-4 overall record and earned runner-up honors in the Class A division of the Grand Rapids City League.

"We are thrilled to add Danielle to our roster," Dorow said. "Her basketball repertoire consists of scoring from anywhere at anytime and she has great court awareness.

"She will be able to get the ball to open players and will create easy opportunities for us to score," she added.

Davis averaged 22 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists per game as a senior while earning team Most Valuable Player Award laurels for the second consecutive season under head coach Brianne Daye. The three-time All-City League selection previously averaged 18 points, 10 rebounds and four assists while directing Ottawa Hills to a 16-4 overall mark in 2005.

As a sophomore (2004), Davis tallied 18 points, nine boards and six assists as the Bengals posted a 15-5 record. The team finished 13-7 her freshman campaign (2003) as Davis recorded 16 points, nine rebounds and five assists per contest. She earned four varsity letters.

"Danielle is eager for the challenge of competing at the collegiate level," said Dorow. "She has extremely high goals set for herself and we want to help her develop so those goals become a reality.

"She is prepared to work hard to fulfill her dreams and push our team one step further - Danielle wants to be a part of a winning program."

In addition to basketball, Davis also was active on the school's bowling team and participated in the Young Educators Society. The daughter of Brian Nabors and Barbara Davis, Danielle plans to major in physical therapy at Ferris State.

"We are excited about having another player who is from Grand Rapids and has tremendous support from her friends, family and teachers along with coaches at Ottawa Hills High School," Dorow said. "She is a great fit for our program."

Davis joins prep guards Katie Mount (Waterford/Mott), Mandy Yoder (Nappanee, Ind./NorthWood) and Becci Houdek (Canton) in addition to forward Amy Joostberns (Nashville/Lakewood) as members of the Bulldogs’ current incoming recruiting class for the 2007-08 season.

Ferris State, which advanced to the NCAA Division II Sweet Sixteen for the first time in school history last season, was ranked 25th nationally in the final 2006-07 USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll. FSU posted a school-record 23 wins (23-9) last campaign while advancing to the NCAA-II Great Lakes Regional Championship Game for the first time. The Bulldogs, who prior to last year had never won a NCAA Tournament game, recorded back-to-back wins in their first two national tournament contests en route to the regional runner-up finish.

Ferris also compiled a second-place tying 13-5 GLIAC regular-season finish and earned the program's eighth consecutive GLIAC Tournament bid in Dorow's ninth season at the helm.
