FERRIS' CARLTON EPPS NAMED GLIAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Junior Guard Honored as League's North Division Award Winner
Ferris State University junior guard Carlton Epps (Benton Harbor) has been selected this week's (Jan. 12) Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division Player of the Week for his performance in the Bulldogs' 88-82 league triumph over rival Grand Valley State last Saturday (Jan. 10) at FSU's Jim Wink Arena.

The 6-2 Epps tallied a game-high 27 points on a nine-of-12 performance from the floor versus the Lakers. He also registered six made three-point field goals as the Bulldogs' tied a school single-game mark with 15 treys. Epps, who is averaging 27 points per game in his last three outings to date, added five rebounds, four assists and three steals as FSU took sole possession of first place in the GLIAC North Division with a current 4-1 league mark.
The two-time FSU Defensive Most Valuable Player Award winner totaled 16 first-half points against GVSU as the Bulldogs opened a seven-point halftime lead. He is the second Bulldog player to attain league award accolades this season as senior guard Willie Thomas (Columbus, Ohio/Eastmoor Academy) previously earned the honor on Dec. 15.
Epps, who presently ranks as FSU's second-leading scorer (14.9 ppg) this campaign, has compiled a team leading 36 steals and is shooting a squad-best 51.3% (39-76) from three-point range to date. He has currently recorded 145 career steals and is four away from tying Zarie Phillips (149; 1993-98) for fourth place on the school's career leaders list. Epps scored a personal career-high 30 points in FSU's 85-77 non-conference setback at Calvin (Jan. 3).
The twin brother of FSU junior guard Corey Epps (Benton Harbor), Carlton led Ferris with 51 steals last season and placed third (11.6 ppg) among the team's scoring leaders. He also registered 17 double-figure scoring contests after posting 11 games with 10 or more points as a freshman in 2001-02.
Ferris State, which is currently 4-10 overall, will visit Hillsdale this Thursday (Jan. 15) for an 8 p.m. (EST) league encounter at HC's Jessie Philips Arena in Hillsdale, Mich. The Bulldogs will then host Wayne State Saturday (Jan. 17) with league tipoff set for 3 p.m. (EST) at Jim Wink Arena.
