Approximately 45% of the overall study in the PTM program is in business, 30% in general studies, and 25% in courses related to tennis management. Completion of the program leads to a Bachelor of Science degree in business marketing with a tennis emphasis.

Business Courses

PTM students enroll in the same courses as all business students:

Tennis Management Courses

These courses are taught by Ferris PTM faculty, supplemented by tennis industry experts such as:

Workshops and classes are held on campus in teaching techniques, tournament administration, racquet repair and more.

General Education Courses & Technology

The curriculum also includes areas that help provide for a well-rounded education such as: English, mathematics, humanities and social sciences. The PTM program at Ferris State University is on the cutting edge of technology, utilizing computers and the web to enhance the learning experience.

USPTA Certification

The United States Professional Tennis Association is the country's largest and oldest trade association for tennis professionals. Certification as a USPTA professional provides the credentials necessary to obtain employment as a tennis professional.

Founded in 1927, the USPTA certifies, educates and provides professional services for its more than 12,000 members around the world. It is a nonprofitorganization with two goals: to raise the standard of the tennis profession, and promote tennis and tennis participation.

The certification test is given the senior year for PTM students and includes a proficiency evaluation, teaching and playing assesment, and written examination. Ferris students are fully prepared to pass the test on the first attempt.
