Objectives

Mission Statement

The ASCO Informatics SIG seeks to demonstrate the benefits of informatics in the delivery of eye and vision care and in the education of students, clinicians and academics by:

  • Providing the highest caliber health informatics information at all levels of optometric education 
  • Extending knowledge of eye/vision care and health related technologies through innovative and technologically advanced research and development. 
  • Furthering the understanding of health informatics through education, evaluating existing methodologies, developing state of the art methodologies and contributing to the development of optometric informatics policy at national and international levels. 
  • Collaborating with organizations from a wide range of disciplines, in recognition of the multi-faceted nature of informatics research and applications
  • Promoting effective use of informatics in academia, clinical practice and the world community. 

Strategic Plan -

This is a "live document", continually evolving as technology and the political and functional needs of the member institutions develop. Please provide comments and suggestions to the ASCO Informatics SIG leadership.

Informatics Standards for Schools and Colleges of Optometry

The final draft has been approved and will soon be posted on the ASCO website.

Resources

Members - Faculty members from each of the Colleges of Optometry volunteer their time and expertise to develop and promote teaching technologies at their school and between schools.

Computer-Based Instructional Tools developed by and for optometric educators. This database is housed at the University of Houston College of Optometry. Many hours of work are devoted to these programs please acknowledge the authors when using in your courses.
