Orientation Instructions:
You should contact Dr. Varanelli 6 weeks prior to the first day of the rotation to verify dates, times, directions, parking, and any other instructions.  YOU MUST:

1. Prior to the first day of the rotation provide Dr. Varanelli with your email address and phone number.
2. AT LEAST two weeks prior to the first day of the rotation contact Ms. Deb Clapp in the Surgical Office to be certain all of your Ferris Connect John Dingell VA (Detroit)  on-line forms have been completed properly.   Interns will NOT be allowed to see patients until this has been completed.
3. Here is the link to follow: http://www.detroit.va.gov/students/students.asp     Forms to fill out: WOC Appointment Request, OF 306, VA 0711, Mandatory training for Trainees, and the National Rules of Behavior.

Report to the above address on the first day of the rotation at 8:00 a.m. for orientation to policies, clinical protocol, administrative procedures, etc.  Completion of Hepatitis B series is required (unless waiver is signed) and annual TB testing must be completed.  BE CERTAIN TO TAKE YOUR CURRENT CPR CRD, TB TEST RESTULTS CARD, AND HEP B (OR WAIVER FORM) TO EACH OF YOUR ROTATION SITES. You also will be required to provide a photo drivers license or passport and social security card or original/certified copy of birth certificate.

Schedule:
    Operating Hours: M-F, 8:30am-5:30pm
    Hours of direct patient care for extern per day: 7-9 (35-40 per week)
    Number of patients seen by extern per day: 7-10

Educational Objectives:

• To improve knowledge base in ophthalmic diseases and ophthalmic manifestations of systemic diseases.
• To develop technical clinical skills.
• To expand professional communication and interdisciplinary interaction abilities.
• To provide exposure to multi-disciplinary programs.
