| MCO Faculty Member Elected Chair-Elect of APHA Vision Section |
posted 09/10/2009  Renee Mika was elected to the position of Chair-Elect for the American Public Health Association's Vision Care Section for the coming year. Dr. Mika is an Associate Professor at the Michigan College of Optometry (MCO). Dr. Mika teaches public health, clinical procedures, and environmental vision. She also serves as a clinical instructor within the pediatrics and primary care clinics at MCO, Cherry Street Health Services in Grand Rapids, MI and within MCO’s new satellite clinic at Baldwin Family Health Care in Baldwin, MI, which she helped establish. Dr. Mika currently serves as the Director of Community-Based Services at MCO. Her research interests revolve around public health and pediatrics ans she recently completed an analysis of vision care access and utilization within local rural community health centers. Dr. Mika is currently directing the development of school-based vision clinics that will serve local children in need. Dr. Mika is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, a founding editorial board member of the Michigan Journal of Public Health, and a member of the Federal Relations Committee of the American Optometric Association. |
