"New Careers in the Distance""The sudden and widespread adoption of technology has injected new life into some trainers’ careers. But for every instructor embracing change, there are three others who view Web-based training (WBT) and other new developments as a disease spreading quickly through their profession." (p. 30) "The Stamford, Conn.-based Gartner Group predicts the delivery of training will shift from 25 percent technology-based and 75 percent instructor-led in 1998 to a 50-50 split by 2002. (p. 30) "As the Internet and videoconferencing technologies started to emerge, Howard [former director of computer and distance learning center for NYNEX Corp.] identified new roles his staff members could assume. He needed well-organized project managers to handle videoconferencing scheduling and electronic performance support. Others from his staff, who had a background in cognitive learning skills, stepped forward to become instructional designers." (p. 30) "Positions for on-line mentors will increase."
