"Arthur Levine: Creating an Education System for an Information Age" by Dan Page, Converge, October 2000, p. 48

Arthur Levine is president and professor of education at Teachers College at Columbia University. "Levine believes that change is the single greatest issue facing educators today." (p. 48) "We are faced with a new world, and educational institutions that were created for an industrial society don't match the needs of an information age." (p. 48) "We're talking about much more individualization of education. Technology is going to be one of the keys to achieving that." (p. 49) "People need more education, more often than ever before. We're going to move from 'just-in-case education' to 'just-in-time education'." (p. 49) "In the future, great intellectual talent, instead of reaching 200 people in a classroom, will be able to reach millions of people. The stars of teaching will be represented by agents and will become more important than the institutions in which they serve." (p. 49) "In place of a degree, individuals will have the equivalent of a portfolio or passport that will allow them to move from one destination to the next in life's journey."
