New Online Catalog System is Coming Soon
The Library is currently in contract negotiations with Innovative Interfaces, Inc. to purchase its new Millennium library-integrated system. In preparation for the upcoming migration to Millennium from the Library's current online catalog, Leah Monger, Department Head for Library Systems and Operations, and Joe Weber, Acquisitions Librarian, flew to Philadelphia for the eighth annual Innovative Users Group conference held April 30-May 2. Between the two of them, Leah and Joe attended 25 meetings and presentations during the three days, and they came back with many ideas for extra services to implement with the new system. The new online catalog will offer library users a number of improvements over the current system, including enhanced searching capabilities, options for making online requests, and a slick, easy-to-use Web interface that can be customized to local needs. The new system will also improve the processing workflow for new books and will reduce the time it takes between placing an order and having the book actually appear on the shelf.
