Information Detectives are Found at Timme

Reference services provide faculty, staff, students, and other patrons with assistance locating, retrieving, and evaluating information on almost any subject. Frequently asked questions include "Who wrote Pride and Prejudice?," and "What is the First Amendment?" to "Do you have a Big Rapids tax form?." Reference librarians answer these questions through the use of a variety of resources including specialized reference books, electronic databases, the Library Catalog, and the Web. Librarians and reference assistants have received specialized training in the use of these resources and can find appropriate information quickly and efficiently. The reference staff also provides one-on-one training to patrons on how to use the resources.

The Library provides a variety of finding aids on specialized subjects, such as astronomy, chemistry, geology, physics, psychology, marketing, and sociology. These finding aids provide a list of reference materials according to subject area. The handouts are located next to the reference desk on the first floor of Timme Library. The Library Web site at www.ferris.edu/library also provides access to a variety of Web resources under "Subject Reference" and "Virtual Reference." The Web sites have been chosen and evaluated by Librarians to ensure that the material is factual and relevant to the subject area.

Reference staff answers walk-in, email, telephone and snail mail questions. Please stop by the reference desk at the Library or call 591-3602 for assistance. Patrons may also ask questions electronically by clicking on "Questions" on the Library homepage.
