Did you know?

The first offial graduate level degree offered by Ferris State University was the Doctor of Optometry degree. It was listed in the 1976-1977 catalog and described as "a minimum of two years pre-professional study followed by four years of study in the professional optometric curriculum. The professional curriculum includes clinical training and practice under the supervision of the faculty of the College of Optometry."

Thesis Collection

One important part of the Ferris Collection are the theses produced by Ferris State University masters students. All students are required to submit one copy of their thesis to the collection before graduation.

Theses may be searched using the library online catalog. One easy way to do it is using the keyword "Ferris thesis." The University Archives also maintains a listing of theses submitted, alphabetically by name. To see that list click here.

Because these are the official record copy of a thesis, it is accessible by patrons but more secure than general stacks so that it is preserved for future use. Therefore, materials may not be checked out. Faculty with special needs should contact the University Archivist.

Selected theses are available at the Reserve desk under the instructors name. Please check the online catalog for these examples. All others are housed in the Ferris Collection.

Materials are available Monday- Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and by appointment.
