Did you know?

Local directories/phone books are located in the Michigan Collection. Directories can be a valuable source for genealogists and those looking up historic information. Directories in the collection date back to 1875, and can be found under a variety of titles. Some of the tiles used in the catalog include the Big Rapids, Michigan City Directory and Big Rapids White/Yellow Pages. We also have limited historical phone books from other cities in the state. The years may be searched in advance by using the online catalog.

Michigan Collection

This collection focuses on Michigan history and in particular on the following counties: Lake, Mason, Mecosta, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana and Osceola. Materials include books, pamphlets and some cds.

Materials may be searched using the library online catalog.

The Michigan Collection was created to gather expensive and unique items dealing with Michigan and local history into a collection that is accessible by patrons but more secure than general stacks so that it is preserved for future use. Therefore, materials may not be checked out.

Materials are available Monday- Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and by appointment.
