Historical Note
In February 1928, Ralph Hayward published a slim paper student directory. Ads were used to defray costs. Although titled a student directory, the publication also included faculty addresses and telephone numbers. Student information included name, address, telephone number and course of study.
No directories currently exist for the 1930-1940 period, although it is unclear if one was actually published. In 1940, a fifteen cent directory of faculty and students was issued. The title page noted that the directory was published by students. From the 1940-1971 period, directories were issued by either the institution or by a student organization such as a fraternity. After 1971, all publications were done with institutional funding, even if the directory might be sponsored by the student government organization.
In 1984, the Centennial Directory began the inclusion of the office listing at the beginning of the directory. In 1986-87, it merged to become the campus wide directory. It included both staff and student information. New materials included office information and campus maps and procedures.

Scope and Content Note
Campus directories provide information about students and staff. Information may include local addresses which gives information about living patterns. It also provides addresses for staff members, including their office and home contacts. This provides insight into the current organizational and physical structure of the institution. Earlier editions also included ads from local businesses.
This collection only contains the published directories.

Conditions of Access
The Campus Directory Records are open for research to all users in accordance with University Archives and Records Management access policies. It is available in the reading room of the Ferris State University Archives.
Conditions of Use
Requests for permission to publish material should be directed to the University Archivist. It is the responsibility of the researcher to identify and satisfy the holders of all copyrights.

Provenance (Acquisition Information)
These records were transferred to the University Archives when published by the Institutional Research and Testing office.
Processing Information
The Campus Directory Records were processed to the folder level by Melinda McMartin Isler in June 2005. They were revised in July 2008. A finding aid was prepared in a word processing format and converted to EAD 2.0. A collection level MARC-21 record was prepared and placed in the library online public access catalog. Technical Requirements
This collection consists of bound directories on 8.5 x 11 inch paper. No specialized software or hardware is required for viewing.
