Donating to the Ferris State University Archives

The mission of the University Archives is to preserve and present the history of Ferris State University and specialized collections. The archives encourages the use of the collections by staff, students and other interested persons for research, teaching and to support staff in the performance of their duties.

Our focus for collecting includes the following five areas:

  • Ferris State University
  • Mecosta County, Michigan
  • Optometry in Michigan
  • Printing industry in Michigan
  • Vocational education in Michigan

We welcome records in any format! As a general rule, we do not purchase collections. For further details please contact the University Archivist.

University records may be transferred to the university archives using the same procedures as the transfer of records to the inactive records center. The University Archives will supply boxes and provide pickup of small amounts of records on request. Departments are asked to fill out a records transfer memo which can be found on the forms page.

For all other records, including faculty papers, donors are required to sign a gift agreement which is available upon receipt of material.

Copies of the full collection policy are available upon request from the University Archivist.

Faculty Records

Faculty records are welcomed by the University Archives. Records created as part of administrative work are transferred by the usual transfer process, but we also seek the personal records of faculty. For more information about the type of records we are looking for, click on this brochure.
