Finding Journal Articles

To find journal articles on a particular topic, it's necessary to use one or more of the databases available on the FLITE Web site. These databases index thousands of journal titles, with a many providing full-text (content of the articles is found directly within the database), some only provide citations (description of where the article originally appeared in print).

Selected Humanities Databases

Art Abstracts
Subjects covered include art, art history, the decorative arts, industrial design, and photography, as well as a plethora of related subjects.

Arts and Humanities Citation Index
Includes citation analysis for nearly 3 million articles published in leading humanities journals since 1980 is provided in the Arts and Humanities Citation Index.

CAMIO
Catalog of Art Museum Images Online is a digital image database containing more than 100,000 artworks culled from several museums around the world.

Humanities Abstracts
Art, film, folklore, history, literature, performing arts, philosophy, and religion, mostly indexing journal articles, citations extend back to 1984.

General OneFile
A very large, full-text database with over 50 million articles covering a myriad of subjects, General OneFile indexes both newspapers and journals. Coverage is from 1980 to present. A few journals, especially older dates, give only selective full-text.

Additional Resources

Getting the Article

If HTML or PDF full text options are available, click the link to go directly to the full text.

If full text is not avaiable: Click the "Find It" button. This will attempt to locate the full text in another database. A new screen will open listing access options. Make your selection and click the red button.

Your article may be available electronically, in print, or may need to be requested it through InterLibrary Loan (ILL).

If the only message you see is "Request document via Interlibrary Loan"; you will need to request the article from another library. By clicking on the link in the window provided, you will be directed to the ILL login screen.

If you want to look up whether FLITE has access to a specific journal title you can use the Find a Periodical tool. Remember to use the journal title not the article title for your search.

Off Campus Access

FLITE's subscription databases are available to all current Ferris students, faculty, and staff. Login with your MyFSU username and password. Additional information can be found at Off Campus Database Access.
