In case you missed it-
We understand a lot of information was presented at your FSUS FLITE class. Hopefully this page will help you navigate FLITE.
Reference
Librarians are available to help answer research questions and provide other library assistance. You can find librarians at the reference desk located on the First Floor of FLITE, by phone at 231-591-3602, by email(netref at (@) ferris.edu), or via chat http://library.ferris.edu/chat. More information is available at FLITE help.
Journal, Newspaper, Magazine Articles
FLITE has access to thousands of journal, newspaper, and magazine articles. Many are accessible electronically. Search Databases to locate articles on your topic. Print, microfilm, and microfiche formats are located on the 2nd floor, except for print journals ten years or older, which are located on the Lower Level.
Online Catalog
To locate books in FLITE, use the Online Catalog. Each record will provide the location of the item, which may be physical (such as FSU Main Stacks 3rd Floor) or virtual (such as FSU Internet Resources). To locate your item in the library, this call number system can be applied:
- Main Stacks, Call Numbers A-H - Lower Level
- Main Stacks, Call Numbers J-Z - Third Floor
- Reference - First Floor
- Government Documents - Second Floor
Remember- call numbers represent subjects. To find your subject, see the Library of Congress Classification Outline.
Off Campus Access
To access all of FLITE's electronic journal articles, books, and databases from off campus use your Ferris ID and password (same as MyFSU login). You will be prompted for this information. Additional information regarding this system can be found on the Distance Education page.
Print and Electronic Reference Books
Reference books are a great way to gather background information, explore topics, and gain a general understanding about a variety of topics. Printed reference books are located on the First Floor. Electronic Reference Resources are found under Databases on the home page and are cataloged in the Online Catalog.
Research Guides:
A variety of Research Guides are available for subject searching. The PRINT guides list resources in print at FLITE, while the WEB guides link to electronic resources.
Printing
Printers are located on the First Floor near the Information Commons and on the Second Floor near the Periodicals Desk. Black and white pages cost .10/page and color are .50/page. The first time you use your ID card to print, it must be initialized. Please take it to the Check-out Desk on the First Floor or the Periodicals Desk on the Second Floor for initialization. Once initialized, add money in $ increments. (Change is available in the vending room.) Machine is located at the end of the check out desk.
IKON cards can also be purchased for printing. Purchase a card for $1 from the dispenser at the end of the Check-out Desk. Add value to the card by placing card into dispenser and adding money in $ increments. Change is available in the vending room. Be sure to place your card in first after purchase, or you'll get another card.
Once you have your ID card initialized or an IKON card with funds, follow these steps for printing at FLITE:
- Print your document using the software's print function. (For large files, print in smaller amounts of under 10 pages.)
- The print server software will ask for name and password. Password is anything of your choosing.
- Go to print server and insert card. Print server computers are located to the right of Check-out Desk and on the Second Floor.
- Locate your job from the list and select it.
- Click on print and enter the password you used when you sent the job.
- Collect your printout. Don't forget your card!
For more information, including printing in color, see Printer Directions.

Located throughout the three floors of FLITE are 44 rooms available for check-out. They may be checked out for 4 hours. See the Check-out Desk staff.
Laptops

Quiet areas are designated in the 3rd Floor seating and computer areas, Lower Level seating area, and Extended Hours area (only when the main part of FLITE is closed.)
