If you are enrolled as an off-campus student, you may wish to make use of some special services that the Library offers, including Document Delivery and remote access to our databases. See Distance Education Library Services for additional information.
Finding Journal Articles in Library Databases
Please read Off-Campus Database Access if you want to do database searching from home.
General
Use these multi-subject databases for any topic:
General OneFile
A very large full-text database with several million articles covering a myriad of subjects, General OneFile indexes both newspapers and journals. Coverage is from 1980 to present. A few journals, especially older dates, give only selective full-text.
Wilson OmniFile
This completely full-text database includes articles from a wide range of subject fields including science, humanities, education and business. Coverage is from 1994 to the present.
Business
ABI/INFORM
One of the first electronic databases, ABI/INFORM has been a premier source of business and corporate information for more than 30 years. The database contains content from thousands of journals that help researchers track business conditions, trends, management techniques, corporate strategies, and industry-specific topics worldwide. Coverage for this database begins in 1971.
Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe
The Business section in Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe contains Company Profiles and Industry Snapshots from Hoover as well as articles from such business sources as Business Week and Fortune.
Standard & Poor's NetAdvantage
Net Advantage gives easy access to comprehensive data on companies, executives, industries, stocks, bonds and mutual funds--and solid investment advice from top analysts. Wilson Business
A comprehensive indexing source for business literature, Wilson Business contains citations and very little full text. Use the Find It button to determine availability of articles.
For information on accessing databases from off-campus, click here.
Getting an Article
In the databases, if HTML or PDF full text options are available, click the link to go directly to the full text.
If full text is not an option:
Click on a link or button that says "Find It" or "See more details for locating this item".
After the "Find It" screen comes up, select the appropriate red GO button.
If the only message you see is "Request document via Interlibrary Loan", you will need to order the article. By clicking this Go button, you will be directed to our Interlibrary Loan request system which is called Illiad. If you already have an account, just sign in. The information from the citation will already be filled out. If you don't have an account, you will need to create one.
Sometimes the "Find It" button will provide a link to the Online Catalog. This indicates that the journal is found in FLITE's print collection. The catalog will provide you information about the issues that we own and the format.
To look up whether FLITE owns a particular journal, use the Journals Tab on the library catalog page. Remember to use the journal title and NOT the article title for your search.
Peer-Reviewed or Refereed / General Information About a Journal
For a quick way to determine if a journal is peer-reviewed or refereed and to find general information on a journal, use the Ulrich's Periodicals Directory.
