Encyclopedias, etc.

Reference books like encyclopedias and dictionaries are located on the first floor of FLITE, just outside the classroom we met in (room 114).

FLITE also has many online encyclopedias. You can search in many of them using CREDO Reference.

Finding Books

To locate books in FLITE, search for them by title, author, or keyword in the library catalog.

To get to the catalog, start at the FLITE homepage, click on the Catalog tab of the center box, and type your search into the search box that appears.

Each result that comes up should tell you the item's location. In many cases it will look something like this:

   AVAILABLE - FSU Main Stacks - 3rd Floor - QE731 .S75 2009 v.1

That means:

  • This book is available (not checked out)
  • This book is located in our main stacks (our main collection of books you can check out)
  • This book is on the third floor of FLITE
  • This book's call number, or address on the shelf, is QE731 .S75 2009 v.1

Books are alphabetized on the shelf according to their call numbers.

Here is a video tutorial on using the library catalog.

ebooks

Some of our books are available electronically. If the book you want is an ebook, click on the link that says:

   connect to this electronic resource

and you will be taken to the full text of the book. If you do this from off campus, you will be asked to login with your MyFSU username and password.

Finding Articles

To find articles, you will need to look in one of FLITE's databases. I recommend starting with Academic OneFile.

Academic OneFile is a good place to start almost any research, because it has so much in it.

To search Academic OneFile:

  • Click on Basic Search (in the yellow/orange bar near the top)
  • Choose one or two words to represent your topic
  • Type your words into the search box

Suggestions to help you search:

  • Check your spelling! A single misspelled word can mean the difference between great results and no results at all.
    Need to check your spelling?

  • Ask for help.
All the librarians in FLITE were hired to make your life easier. We can't do that unless you bring us your questions.

Finding articles when there's no Full-Text link

The Find-It or SFX links will tell you if FLITE has access to an article, and link you to the article if we do.
Click here for a video tutorial on how to use Find-It links.

Formatting Your Citations

Academic OneFile will do most of the work for you! To get a formatted citation from Academic OneFile, use its Citation Tools link.

CREDO Reference will do most of the work for you, too. Scroll to the bottom of the article and click on the APA link. The formatted reference will appear on the screen for you to copy.

Otherwise, take a look at FLITE's Guide to APA Citation Style.
