Database Searching: Finding Articles
To find journal articles on a particular topic, use one or more of the databases available on the FLITE Web site. These are some to get you started.
General OneFile
Very large database with a lot of full-text articles in a wide variety of subjects, General OneFile contains magazines, journals, and newspaper articles.
CQ Researcher
CQ Researcher supplies 12,000-word reports, investigated and written by seasoned journalists. 44 reports covering timely events are published every year.
providing in-depth, unbiased coverage of a pressing political or social issue. (Limited to three users at once.)
Opposing Viewpoints in Context
Experts debate current events and hot topics, giving opinions from both sides in politics, social issues, health, money, and religion.
Suggestions to retrieve better/more results:
- Search topic as both a keyword and subject
- Combine terms with AND or OR
- Set date ranges limit to a specific time
- Use quotes for phrases
- Subject searching: Search for the subject of your topic.
Example:
Topic: German Immigration
Subject: German Americans - Keyword searching: Search for keywords on your topic.
Example:
Topic: The invention of the car
Keyword(s): automobile history
