Finding Books

For books and documents at FLITE, and for ebooks, use the Catalog tab on the FLITE home page.

Use MelCat to look up books in other Michigan Libraries. MelCat items will be delivered to the circulation desk and you will receive an Email when the items arrive. If materials you need aren't available via MelCat try InterLibrary Loan.

Finding articles in journals and magazines

To find journal and magazine articles on a particular topic, use one or more of the databases available on the FLITE Web site. These databases provide indexing to thousands of journal titles.

Good databases for business and technology articles are:

ABI/INFORM
ABI INFORM combines business and industry journals with international and scholarly content. Many important titles are available in full text.

Academic OneFile
Academic OneFile is a large database with broad subject coverage, containing many full-text resources. Resources include: articles from over 8,000 academic titles in numerous disciplines, magazine articles, information from reference books including subject-area encyclopedias, news from certain national and international newspapers and newsletters, as well as selected transcripts from television and radio broadcasts and selected podcasts. This resource is aimed at the academic, higher education community.

Applied Science and Technology Abstracts
Applied Science and Technology Abstracts provides abstracts from 757 journal titles, and broadly covers science and technology. Full text is available for many of the articles.

Suggestions to retrieve better/more results:

  • Search topic as both a keyword and subject
  • Combine terms with AND or OR
  • Set date ranges to limit to a specific time
  • Use quotes for phrases

Other databases are sorted by subject from the Database Access page.
Please read Off Campus Database Access for information on searching from home.

Business and Company Information

FLITE also subscribes to several databases that provide information about businesses, companies and industries. Here are some places to start:

Business and Company Resource Center

Lexis Nexis Academic Universe
The "Get Company Info" box of Lexis Nexis Academic Universe provides access to extensive information about companies and industries.

Datamonitor
Datamonitor provides in-depth market information on a global scale. Content includes over 3,000 industry profiles and most company profiles include a SWOT analysis. Additional content provides information on over 215 countries and Porter's 5 forces analysis.

Other Useful Resources

The different databases and electronic resources at FLITE cover a wide variety of information. Here are 2 more than might be helpful for your research project.
