Getting an Article

In the databases, if HTML or PDF full text options are available, click the link to go directly to the full text.

If full text is not an option:

Click on a link or button that says "Find It" or "See more details for locating this item".

After the "Find It" screen comes up, select the appropriate red GO button.

screen capture from SFX

If the only message you see is "Request document via Interlibrary Loan", you will need to order the article. By clicking this Go button, you will be directed to our Interlibrary Loan request system which is called Illiad. If you already have an account, just sign in. The information from the citation will already be filled out. If you don't have an account, you will need to create one.

Sometimes the "Find It" button will provide a link to the Online Catalog. This indicates that the journal is found in FLITE's print collection. The catalog will provide you information about the issues that we own and the format.

To look up whether FLITE owns a particular journal, use the Journals Tab on the library catalog page. Remember to use the journal title and NOT the article title for your search.

Online Catalog

Use the Online Catalog to find journals at FLITE in physical formats.

Try a Keyword search using the word Periodicals and use the location limit to FSU Periodicals. You will probably need to try more than one search, combining several words with Periodicals. EX: dental hygiene periodicals and dental hygienists periodicals. You may also need to remove the limit to FSU Periodicals.

Find a Periodical

In Find a Periodical, use Title Word Search. It's probably better to use one word only in your search. You may need to try several searches to get adequate results.

Also try the Subject tab in Find a Periodical to look up journals in your discipline. Please note that the subject headings may not be specific enough (EX: Education and Careers is a subcategory under Arts and Humanities. This subcategory contains over 900 titles, which won't help you much if your field is specifically elementary education.)

Chicago Citation Guide (PDF)
An online version of FLITE's quick guide for Chicago style citations.

Citation Style Guide: MLA (PDF)
