Supervisory Practices in Healthcare
On Campus Student Information for Retrieving Books for Class Assignment
- There is a list of selected books for this course below.
- Choose a book you want to read and click on its link.
- Look at the book record and make sure that the book Status is Available.
- Write down the call number and find the book on the shelves at FLITE.
- Not familiar with finding books on the shelves at FLITE, please go here to learn about using Library of Congress call numbers.
- Take your book to the check-out desk on the first floor and be ready to provide your Bulldog Card.
- The book can be checked out for 3 weeks, and if you are not finished with it after 3 weeks, you may renew it so you have 6 weeks to read the book.
- To renew your book online, go to the online catalog. Using the pull-down menu at the top of the screen that says Catalog Options, select Patron record. Enter your MyFSU username and password and you will get into your record that will display a list of items checked out. Click on the box next to the book, and then select Renew, and you will have 3 more weeks to read your book.**Note - when you renew your book, the renewal date is 3 weeks from the date that you renewed, so wait until the day before it is due to renew your book**
Off-Campus Student Information for Retrieving Books for Class Assignment - Option 1: Your local Public Library participates in MeLCat
- Determine if your local public library participates in MeLCat by scrolling down the list of participating libraries linked here.
- If your library is a participating library, select a book from the list below.
- When you get to the library record, click on the red box on the far top right of the screen that says Search MeLCat.
- The catalog record through MelCAT will have a link that says Get this for me.
- Select your Public Library from the list.
- Enter your name and library barcode information.
- You should get a message that your request was successfully submitted.
- The book will be delivered to your local public library where you can pick it up and return it.
- Contact your local library to find out if they will call you or e-mail you when your book is available.
- If you are not done with your book by the due date, contact your local library to have the book renewed.
Off-Campus Student Information for Retrieving Books for Class Assignment - Option 2: Your local Public Library DOES NOT participates in MeLCat
- So, you've already followed step 1 above and determined that your local public library DOES NOT participate in MeLCat.
- Proceed to the list of selected books for this course below.
- Select a book from the list below
- Look at the book record and make sure that the book Status is Available.
- Click on the following link for interlibrary loan: http://illiad.ferris.edu/illiad/logon.html.
- You will be in the interlibrary loan log-on screen. Interlibrary loan allows the library to ship the book to your home address at no charge. You will need to pay for shipping back.
- If you do not have an interlibrary loan account (it's free), click on First Time Users Click Here and create an account, otherwise, just log-on to your account
- Under New Request select Book/Video
- Fill out the book information (you should still have the book record open in your other browser window) and hit Submit Request.
- Your book will be shipped soon. Note the due date on the book. If you need to borrow the book for a longer time, see step 11.

Finding Library Materials
To find books, journals, videos, and other library materials, there are several resources to use. Beginning at the library's homepage, you will find links for locating all types of library materials.
- Find Books, videos, and more using the online catalog. The online catalog is set-up so you can perform keyword searches, subject searches, title searches, etc.
- Find Articles using Databases. You can select Health and Medical Resources if you are specifically searching a health-related topic, or select other subject areas as necessary.
- Find Journals using the online catalog journals tab. Journals may be available online, in print, or in microform. You can search by the full journal title, title words, or by subject.
- Find Online Encyclopedias, Handbooks, and other Reference Books using the Electronic Reference Resources.
