Finding Journal Articles
To find journal articles on a particular topic, use one or more of the databases available on the FLITE Web site. These databases provide indexing to thousands of journal titles.
Basic Information
Issues and Controversies/Facts On File
Select the "Issues and Controversies" tab on the top right to look at basic information about your issue.
Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center
Opposing Viewpoints contains full-text book chapters and articles showing both sides of contemporary controversial issues.
Access World News
Access World News contains the full-text of nearly 1700 primarily English-language news sources from around the world.Sources for Primary and Secondary Research
Academic OneFile
This is a large database with many full-text articles, related to General OneFile but targeted to academic users. Like General OneFile, as a Michigan resident you can use this database with a Michigan Driver's License when you leave Ferris.WilsonSelect Plus
This database is completely full-text and includes scholarly articles from subject fields including science, humanities, education and business. Coverage is from 1994 to the present.
ERIC
This database provides access to documents collected by the government Educational Resources Information Center. Use the Guide to Searching ERIC to get the best results.Sage Full-Text Databases
You can search a large number of Sage Full-Text Databases together by following these screen shots.
Open Sociology (Sage Full-Text).
On the resulting CSA Illumina Interface page, find the link to "Select Databases".
On the following page, select these databases to search: Communication Studies, Education, PsycARTICLES, Psychology and Sociology. Click on "Continue to Search".
Select "Advanced Search". Notice you are now searching five different databases. Change "Anywhere" to "Keyword."
You can use a Thesaurus to help you search. Click on "Search Tools".
Click on Thesaurus.
Select whichever Thesaurus suits your topic before beginning to search.
Suggestions to retrieve better/more results
- Search topic as both a keyword and subject
- Combine terms with AND or OR
- Set date ranges limit to a specific time
- Use quotes for phrases

If HTML or PDF full text options are available, click the link to go directly to the full text.
If full text is not an option:
Click the "Find
It", link or button;
Select red GO button.

Finding Books at FLITE
For books and documents in the circulating collection (Main Stacks), use the Online Catalog.
Search either using keyword or subject.
Book Locations
- Main Stacks, Call Numbers A-H - Lower Level
- Main Stacks, Call Number J-Z - Third Floor
- Reference - First Floor
- Government Documents - Second Floor
MelCat
Use MelCat to look up books in other Michigan Libraries. MelCat items will be delivered to the circulation desk and you will receive an Email when the items arrive.
Citation Style Guides
Librarians have also made quick links to Style Guides, which you can access from the library home page by choosing:
Reference > General Guides to the Library> MLA
Reference > General Guides to the Library> APA
Copies of both the MLA Handbook and the APA Handbook can be found in the Ready Reference section on Floor 1 of the library near the South Service Reference Desk.

A guide to the new RefWorks Biliographic Management software now offered by FLITE. Use RefWorks to manage your citations and create your bibliographies.
