Books

Many books are available from FLITE. Try searching the Online Catalog, for the subject: advertising. You might also want to try other subject that relate to "advertising", such as marketing or publicity. You can also perform a keyword search as well for even more hits.

Finding Articles

Use some of the subscription databases available from the library's web site to locate articles on advertising or search the companies you are interested in and use the subdivisions to find articles on a particular aspect of the company (such as advertising). The following are the most relevant.

ABI/Inform
One of the first totally electronic database, ABI is the premier business database. Coverage in this database starts in 1971 and it contains over 1,300 journals covering all areas of business including advertising and marketing. Many articles are availalbe full-text and it also provides citation assistance.

Wilson Select Plus
This completely full-text database includes articles from a wide range of subject fields including science, humanities, education and business. Coverage is from 1994 to the present. The ability to perform Boolean searching is easier to see.

Business and Company Resource Center
A combination of sources makes this a good place to stop for company information and articles on companies. Most of the articles are available full-text. The interface is fairly easy to use.

SRDS
SRDS (Standard Rate and Data Service) Media Solutions provides access to the largest and most current database of media rates and information, regardless of media type. Included products are print, broadcast, newspaper, direct marketing, and online. Here is where you can find out how much it costs to advertise in most publications. To complement our print subscription, we also get this source in print. The most recent two issues of these sources are in the reference section.

MRI Plus
MRI Plus is a library of key magazine planning data resources providing a link between the planner and publisher. The Mediamark reporter which is also available, provides access to summary tables of key audience and product usage data from a national probability sample of 27,000 households. You MUST use your ferris account to register for this service.

Other Assistance

We have also made quick links to Style Guides , which you can access from the library home page. Guides include the APA style manual with examples. These guides are in PDF format.

I have also created a marketing handout which lists many print sources in our reference collection. This guide is also in PDF format.

We also provide a chat reference service where you can chat with a reference librarian if you have questions about library research. Hours are very generous as we staff from 9 - 10 Monday - Thursday and Friday from 10 - 9.
