Q: Is a transcript available of Rep. Bob Barr's speech to the
Council of Conservative Citizens? --- Gerry Robinson, Lithonia
A: Apparently
not. Barr (R-Ga.), who spoke to the controversial group in Charleston,
S.C., in June, didn't have a speech prepared in advance, said
spokesman Brad Alexander in Washington. No transcript is available
from the group, either, said Gordon Baum at its St. Louis headquarters.
Baum said he thought Barr had some notes
scribbled on the back of an envelope, but he wasn't sure. Barr
has distanced himself from the council, saying he disagrees with
its racial views, which he finds "repugnant." He said
he merely spoke to the group because he was invited to do so.
Both Alexander and Baum said Barr's topic was presidential impeachment.
