Birch Society Opposes Whites-Only Groups

In the article "Right-wing group builds ties" (Page A23, Jan. 17), readers may have the impression that the John Birch Society was behind the formation of the Council of Conservative Citizens.  Since the society enjoys participation from people of all racial and religious backgrounds, we would automatically oppose organizations that advocate the force of law to deny basic constitutional rights to others.
