Mission:

The International Student Advising staff strives to provide services and programs which assist with the personal, social and academic success of international students.  The office promotes the integration of international students to the campus and local community.  The office also supports cultural exchange while developing effective ways to improve the international student experience at Ferris. 

Hours:

The office is generally open from 8-5 p.m. unless the university is closed. For assistance, it is recommended that you schedule an appointment ahead of time by calling 231-591-2824 or 231-591-2809 or by e-mailing beisies@ferris.edu  or lockwoj1@ferris.edu.

Janel earned her M.S. Ed. from Old Dominion University with an emphasis on International Higher Education Leadership. She has traveled extensively in the Caribbean, Mexico, Japan, Western Europe, Nepal and India. Janel worked at the Fulbright Foundation in New Delhi, India with students who were interested in studying at American institutions of higher education. Helping international students adjust to American culture is her biggest passion. Janel wants to make sure that all Ferris international students feel at ease on campus and throughout the community. She urges students to come to her office with any concerns. Janel understands the difficulty of living, working and studying in a foreign environment combined with the frustrations of being a college student.

Shana began working with International Students at Ferris in July 2006.  She currently lives in Newaygo, Michigan with her three children, Parker, Nolan and Kendall and husband, Tim.  She attended school in Lansing, Michigan.  She previously worked in partnership with the Isuzu Corporation in Flint, Michigan.  Her favorite part of working in the International Center Office is interacting with students on a personal level.  She also loves all of the diversity that surrounds her.  Her hobbies include photography and water activities.  Shana would like to travel to Paris, France because she wants to share this experience with her husband who has previously traveled there.
