Trips: Come with the International Student Advisor's Office to Detroit and Grand Rapids! The International Student Advisor's Office is providing transportation to Detroit on Saturday, February 9th at 8 a.m. This all-day trip will include a visit to the Henry Ford Museum and time for shopping. There will also be another trip offered on Saturday, March 29th to Grand Rapids at 10 a.m. This trip will be tailored to the students who attend; possible destinations for the trip include: a shopping mall, movie theater and restaurants. Working After Graduation: The International Student Advisor's Office will be having two Optional Practical Training (OPT) Workshops during the Spring semester. These workshops will answer questions students have regarding applying to work after graduation and explain how to begin the application process. Students should attend at least one workshop. The workshops are 6 p.m. January 31st at FLITE 108, February 12th at FLITE 133. Taxes, Taxes, Taxes: Experienced accountants in the Big Rapids community will be assisting in a tax workshop to help students complete their taxes. All students should attend to gather information on what to do and what deadlines need to be met. The American tax system is a complex system and these workshops are a great opportunity to get free, expert advice about taxes. The workshops will take place on Thursday, February 7th at 6 p.m. (FLITE 135) and Wednesday, February 27th at 6 p.m. (FLITE 133). Immigration Attorney: Kathy Hanenburg, an immigration attorney from Warner Norcross & Judd LLP, will be presenting information regarding immigration topics specific to international students. This will be a chance for international students to ask questions pertaining to applying for work visas, questions about becoming a permanent resident, applying for a green card, legal implications of marrying an American, etc. Her presentation will be on Thursday, April 2rd at 6 p.m. in FLITE 135. International Festival of Cultures: Come and participate in the biggest cultural event at Ferris, sponsored by the International Student Organization, International Student Advisor's Office, International Admissions, and the Office of Multicultural Student Services. This event will take place on Sunday, April 13th from 1-5 p.m. in the Dome Room at the Rankin Student Center. Every international student is encouraged to display their culture and even assist in the preparation of food for others to enjoy.
