For the 13th year, the organizers and administrators of Ferris State University 3 on 3 Hockey Tournaments feel that we have developed a very unique brand of ice hockey. It has been designed so players of all ages and levels of ability can enhance their individual hockey skills in a fun filled environment. From this philosophy, we feel that all participants (players, coaches, parents, spectators and officials) must adhere to a Code of Conduct throughout the tournament. Be sure that all members of your team are aware of these rules as they will be enforced throughout the weekend. As a reminder, they will be posted at various locations within the arena. Three separate 3 on 3 rinks will be set up in the facility. Each rink measures approximately 100' by 85' with 12 foot high boards.
Tournament Rules/Information
  • Games are four, four-minute periods. One minute rest between periods. Four man teams (we provide Goalies).
  • Goalies are registered separately. Teams are encouraged to bring goalies, but they will have their own game schedule. Goalies will play two periods for each team per game.
  • Goalies will compete in goals against average competition throughout the weekend. Goalies must play in at least 4 games during divisional play to be eligible for playoffs.
  • No checking permitted! Checking is a minor penalty. If a player is a problem, a major penalty will be assessed. 3 on 3 is a skills game.
  • All minor penalties will result in a penalty shot for the opposing team.
  • All major penalties will result in a three-minute time penalty and tournament disqualification.
  • Any fighting whatsoever will result in tournament disqualification.
  • The centerline will be used for offside purposes.
  • All team members should have matching jerseys.
  • Players under current suspension by USA Hockey are ineligible to participate in this tournament.
  • USA Hockey rules apply in all other game circumstances, except icing.
  • No coaching is permitted on the player's benches. Bench parents will be allowed to assist with changing of players only.
  • Mercy rule: 8-goal difference running time.
  • All players must be USA Hockey registered. (We can register players if needed.)
Skills Competition
Everyone on your team is invited to participate in the Saturday Skills Competition. Fastest Shot, Most Accurate Shot, Showdown and Fastest Skater are the categories this year. Goaltenders will compete with the Showdown portion of the competition. Participants may sign up for one event only. Trophies will be awarded.
Tournament Format
The number of teams registered will determine how many divisions and teams per division. A round robin within each division will be conducted with two to four teams advancing to a single elimination play-off round.

LOSS = 0 POINTS
All tie games will be decided in a 4 man shoot out
When deciding playoff brackets the following criteria will be used:
  • Total Points
  • Head to Head
  • Goals for and Goals against differential
