The Ferris State University Standards Committee recommends the following minimum requirements for the purchase of a new desktop computer:

• Optiplex Product Family
• Duo Core Intel Based Processor (Business model rather than personal model)
• 4 Gb RAM
• 160 Gb, 7200 RPM Hard Drive
• 19 " LCD monitor
• DVDRW+-/CDRW Combo drive
• Integrated Network Interface Card
• Windows XP NTFS
• Optical Mouse With Scroll
• 4 year Warranty
• Video Card w/256 Mb RAM

If the budget allows, we recommend purchasing, in the following order, additional RAM, a faster processor, a larger hard drive, and/or a larger monitor. Since each department has unique computer requirements, please contact your local computer support office to determine what hardware configuration will best suit the software applications you use for your work.

Computer Minimum Replacement Recommendations:
In order to run the standard software load currently being used, the Standard's Committee recommends replacement of any desktop computer that is:

• equal or under 3.0 Ghz and
• not Duo Core

Macintosh/Apple computers will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
