The current official vendor for PCs for Ferris is Dell Computing Corporation .
The Ferris State University Standards Committee recommends the following minimum requirements for the purchase of a new laptop/notebook computer:
- Latitude Family
- Duo Core Intel Based Mobile Processor (Business model rather than personal model)
- 4 Gb RAM
- Integrated Network Interface Card
- Integrated Modem
- Wireless B/G Compliant Interface
- 120 Gb, 7200 RPM Hard Drive
- DVDRW+-/CDRW Combo drive
- Windows XP NTFS
- D/Port Advanced Port Replicator
- 4 year limited warranty
- Video Card w/128 Mb RAM
- Nylon carrying case
If the budget allows, we recommend purchasing, in the folloiwng order, additional RAM, a larger hard drive, and a faster processor. Since each department has unique computer requirements, please contact your local computer support office to determine what hardware configuration will best suit the software applications you use for your work.
Computer Minumum Replacement Recommendations:
In order to run FSU's standard software load, the Standard's Committee recommends replacement of any laptop/notebook computer that is:
- equal or lower than 2.0 Ghz and
- is not Duo Core
Macintosh/Apple computers will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
