Frequently Asked Questions
What are Intramural Sports?
Intramural
sports are athletic competitions held
among students, faculty and staff from the same university. The
intramural program offers structured activities in various team and
individual sports. Intramurals are aimed at providing all students,
faculty and staff with an opportunity to participate, regardless of
their skill level.
How many hours a week do Intramural Sports take?
Generally, you will play about 2 games per week for about 4 weeks.
Do we have to practice?
Most teams do not practice - they just get together and play the scheduled games. You are free to practice if you wish, however!
What does the registration fee go towards?
The registration fee pays our officials and allows us to buy equipment for our sports.
Why does Ferris charge a registration fee? No other schools do!
Most
all schools around the state actually do charge a registration fee, for
the same reasons that we do - MIchigan State, Western Michigan, and
Grand Valley included.
What happens if we don't go to the captain's meeting?
If
you do not have a representative at the captain's meeting, your team is
responsible for finding out any rule changes. You also will be charged
$5 for every forfeit from your team during the season (those attending
the captain's meeting get a "free" forfeit).
How do you choose officials?
Our
referees and umpires go through a rules meeting and a training process.
They are evaluated on different criteria by our head supervisors, and
those with the highest scores are chosen to be officials for that
season.
