CLARK HALL

A New Approach to Living and Learning

Why Become Involved?
  • To make your campus life experience more meaningful through active participation in educational and social programs.
  • To focus on academic achievement and leadership development in a supportive and diverse environment.
  • To make connections with other campus resources that can assist in your growth as a person and leader.
  • To take an active role in helping to build community where lasting friendships form.
First Year Experience (FYE)

The FYE Program is a unique opportunity for first year FSU students who would like to enhance their leadership skills, form lasting relationships with other students, prepare for a lifetime of learning, connect with campus and community resources, live in an amazing community, and participate in service-learning initiatives. Program participants will live on the second and third floors of Clark Hall.

The goal of the First Year Experience Program is to provide a learning environment which focuses on students who would like to enhance their potential in the following ways:

  1. To enhance the leadership skills of participants….
By engaging in exercises in self-reflection and self-examination, students will gain an understanding of their individual choices, and how their individuality impacts their life and leadership style.
  2. To encourage students to recognize their impact on communities….
By working with a group of other students on service-learning projects, participants will expand their understanding of community service and the impact individuals have on the campus, local, regional, national, and global community.
  3. 3. To make Ferris a more personal experience and contribute to a successful transition into college…
By participating in the SIX Series Workshops and team development opportunities, students will form a solid understanding of what it takes to be a successful college student and learn what it means to be an involved community member.

All applications must be received by July 16. Please return application materials with your Fall Housing Contract. The FYE Program is limited to 120 spaces. Please understand that the return of the FYE application does not guarantee you a space in the program.

Sophomore Leadership Experience and Development (SLED)

The SLED House is a new residential community which will be housed on the 1st floor of Clark Hall. The mission of this new program is to allow second year students an opportunity to enhance the leadership skills they've developed during their first year at Ferris. In addition, the SLED program will offer leadership and mentoring opportunities to first year students in the FYE program on the second and third floors of Clark Hall.

The SLED program will not only promote leadership and involvement, but will also ensure student success as they progress through their degree requirements. Clark Hall is a supportive living-learning environment that utilizes the rich resources available here at Ferris and in the Big Rapids community.

Some of the exciting opportunities SLED House participants will be able to engage in include:
  • Gaining leadership career-enhancing skills
  • Participating in the facilitation of one or more programs for the FYE participants
  • Participating in House Board programming and Academic Initiatives
  • Becoming an active member in a Registered Student Organization
  • Make lifelong friends!

Applications will be available late Fall or early Winter Semester. Please return application materials with your Fall Housing Contract. The SLED Program is limited to 40 spaces. Please understand that the return of the SLED application does not guarantee you a space in the program.
