GEAR UP Coordinator

Kia Hunter is the GEAR UP Coordinator for the Office of Multicultural Student Services. Her job is to help students in her cohort gain access to information about post-secondary undergraduate programs. She does this by frequently visiting the different schools in Ferris State University's cohort. These schools are Baldwin High School, Morley-Stanwood High School, Muskegon High School, Muskegon Heights High School, and Ottawa Hills High School. She and the students perform interactive activities and discuss the effects that will help them successfully progress through high school; as well as make a successful transition into college. She also oversees their college day and summer camp visits.

Organizations Ms. Hunter are a part of include: Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, Delta Sigma Pi Co-ed Professional Business Fraternity, and BLACK (Black Leaders Aspiring Critical Knowledge).

Ms. Hunter is an alumnus of Ferris State University; she graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a Minor in Human Resource Management. Before graduation, Ms. Hunter was employed by the Student Leadership and Activities Office at Ferris State University. Post graduation, she began working as the TIP Scholar Administrator where she was exposed to administrative responsibilities at FSU. She is currently enrolled in the School of Education to receive her Masters Degree in Career and Technical Education. Ms. Hunter is a native of Detroit and graduated from Cass Technical High School in June of 2001.

In her spare time, Ms. Hunter enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends, and serving her community.
