Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Alpha Phi Alpha Z. B. Chapter Scholarship
PURPOSE OF THE SCHOLARSHIP:
The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr./Alpha Phi Alpha Scholarship provides financial
assistance to academically outstanding students.
Recipients must demonstrate leadership abilities and the potential to make significant
contributions to their chosen professions.
SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNT:
The amount of the Martin Luther King Jr./Alpha Phi Alpha Scholarship will vary
according to the funds available for awarding.
Individuals may apply for the scholarship more than once.
CONDITIONS OF ELIGIBILITY:
To be considered for selection, the following criteria must be met:
- The scholarship is available to African American and/or Latino American male and
female students.
- Candidate must be sophomore, junior, or senior status.
- Candidate must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.8/4.0.
- Candidate must demonstrate leadership abilities, and contributions to the campus. In addition, the candidate must articulate how they intend to contribute to their chosen profession.
- Financial need is not a factor.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
The following procedure is required for consideration:
- Complete the biographical data section of this application including co-curricular
activity involvement and employment history.
- Forward an official transcript to the Office of Multicultural Student Services, Rankin Center 221, Ferris State University, Big Rapids, MI 49307.
- Submit recommendations from one member of the FSU faculty or staff and one member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity who can attest to your leadership abilities.
- Applicant must submit a two page typed letter discussing the impact that Dr. King’s “Dream” had on their personal, academic and social lives. The letter must also describe what they are currently doing to fulfill Dr. King’s dream.
- Candidate must conduct a personal interview with the scholarship selection committee.

Recipients of the Martin Luther King Scholarship will receive a credit to their student
account in the Business Office. Cash will not exchange hands.
