TRAVERSE CITY WEST’S JESSICA DEZELSKI SIGNS WITH FERRIS

FSU Inks Right-Side Hitter To A National Letter-of-Intent

FSU VolleyballRight-side hitter Jessica Dezelski (Lake Ann/Traverse City West) has signed a national letter-of-intent to attend and play women’s volleyball at Ferris State University, beginning with the 2004-05 academic year. The announcement was made by eighth-year FSU head coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm.

The 5-10 Dezelski compiled 456 kills, 419 digs, 82 blocks and 63 assists while registering 165 service aces during the 2002-03 campaign for Traverse City West High School, which claimed the Big North Conference (BNC) championship. The 2002-03 honorable mention all-state selection also attained Traverse City Record-Eagle All-Region Dream Team accolades under head coach Jamie Al-Shamma.

“Jessica has a strong desire to make a significant impact early in her career,” Brandel-Wilhelm said. “Her addition will help strengthen our offensive attack due to her versatility and outstanding work ethic.”

The 2002-03 All-BNC First Team honoree, who appeared in all 134 games for the Titans last season, also posted a .340 kill efficiency and was an 86-percent server. She helped lead T.C. West to both a regional championship and state tournament berth in 2000-01.

“We believe Jessica will fit in well with our fast-paced aggressive style of play,” said Brandel-Wilhelm. “She’s a strong competitor who will develop well within our system and has big potential for growth.”

Dezelski, who played USA Volleyball (USAV) for the Inside-Out 18 and Under Gold Juniors under head coach Chris Allard, also is a member of the school’s varsity softball team.

Besides athletics, Dezelski has been active in the choir, theater, spirit club and National Honor Society at Traverse City West. The daughter of Steven and Mary Dezelski, Jessica plans to major in elementary education at Ferris State. She joins Andrea Zylstra (Muskegon/Mona Shores) as the Bulldogs’ 2004 volleyball recruits to date.

Ferris State concluded the 2003 campaign with a 15-14 overall mark, which represented the program's sixth consecutive winning campaign and included a third-place 12-6 GLIAC North Division mark. FSU also registered its sixth straight league tournament appearance in 2003.
