FERRIS STATE SIGNS PREP STANDOUT DANIELLE BAUCHER

Four-time All-Conference Player Is FSU’s Latest Women’s Volleyball Recruit

Seventh-year Ferris State University women’s volleyball head coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm has announced the addition of Danielle Baucher (Kalamazoo/Mattawan), who has committed to attend FSU and play volleyball beginning with the 2003-04 academic year.

Baucher was a two-time (2002-03) All-Southwest Michigan Athletic Conference selection at Mattawan High School and attained third-team 2002-03 Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association (MIVCA) Class A All-State accolades. The 5-10 outside hitter totaled 511 kills, 460 digs, 93 service aces and 74 blocks in 128 games while garnering team Most Valuable Player Award honors during her senior campaign.

“Danielle is a strong athlete who’s willing to work hard to develop her skills,” Brandel-Wilhelm said. “She is a solid competitor with great quickness. We are excited to have her join the Bulldog volleyball program.”

Baucher, who was also presented both Mattawan’s 2002-03 Best Offensive and Defensive Player Awards, garnered Paw Paw Courier-Leader recognition three times (2001-03) and was a two-time (2002-03) all-region honoree. She claimed MIVCA Class B Honorable Mention All-State kudos as a junior after leading the Wildcats to a district title.

“Danielle’s solid skill base, athleticism and work ethic will help her step in and make a strong contribution,” said Brandel-Wilhelm. “She has a great attitude and is an extremely hard-working individual.”

Baucher also participated in basketball and soccer at Mattawan. She was an honorable mention 2002 Detroit Free Press Class A All-State basketball selection and finished her prep career with nine varsity letters. Baucher, who was involved in the school’s STAR program for students advocating responsible sportsmanship, also played USA Volleyball (USAV) for the USA Michigan Runbirds Elite team under head coach Orlando Gonzalez.

Baucher, who plans to major in business management, joins Keagan Krauss (Lake Odessa/Lakewood), Molly Pickvet (Pinconning) and Karla White (New Baltimore/Anchor Bay) as 2003 Ferris State recruits. She is the daughter of Jim Baucher and Robin Gissal.

Ferris compiled a 24-7 overall mark during the 2002 campaign, which represented the program's fifth consecutive 20-win season and included a second-place 15-3 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division mark. The Bulldogs also claimed their 11th NCAA Division II Tournament bid in the program’s history while making their fifth-straight league tournament appearance in 2002.
