FERRIS STATE VOLLEYBALL GARNERS REGIONAL BERTH
FSU To Face Southern Indiana In Great Lakes Regional At GVSU
The Ferris State women's volleyball team received its 12th all-time NCAA Division II National Tournament berth in an announcement made late Sunday (Nov. 14) night by the national women's volleyball committee.
The Bulldogs, who will be making their first tournament appearance since the 2002 campaign, will face Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Tournament Champion Southern Indiana in Friday's (Nov. 19) quarterfinal round of the NCAA-II Great Lakes Regional Tournament in Grand Valley State's Fieldhouse Arena at Allendale, Mich. Match time is set for 2:30 p.m. (EST).
The committee selected Grand Valley State as the host site despite FSU's 3-0 triumph over the Lakers in Sunday's (Nov. 14) Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament Championship match at GVSU.
FSU is seeded second overall in the field behind host and top seed GVSU while USI is seeded seventh. Friday's other quarterfinal round matches include third-seeded Ashland against sixth-seeded Northwood at 12 p.m. (EST), fourth-seeded Hillsdale facing fifth-seeded Northern Michigan in a 5 p.m. (EST) match and GVSU hosting eighth-seeded Charleston (W.Va.) beginning at 7:30 p.m. (EST). The tournament semifinals will be held Saturday (Nov. 20) at 5 p.m. (EST) and 7:30 p.m. (EST), respectively, with the regional final set for Sunday (Nov. 21) at 5 p.m. (EST).
The winner of Sunday's regional championship match will advance to the 24th annual NCAA-II Elite Eight set to be held Thursday-Saturday, Dec. 2-4, at a campus site to be determined.
Tickets for the Great Lakes Regional will be available at the door or can be obtained by calling the Grand Valley State Athletics Ticket Office at (616) 331-8800. Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $3 for students.
The Bulldogs, who are ranked 20th in the latest (Nov. 9) CSTV/American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II National Poll, have not faced the Screaming Eagles this campaign. USI is presently 23-6 overall this season and will be making only their second-ever NCAA-II National Tournament appearance.
