FERRIS STATE ADDS PREP VOLLEYBALL RECRUIT MEGAN DUSNIK
Fruitport High School Product Becomes Latest FSU Signee
Ninth-year Ferris State University women’s volleyball head coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm has announced the addition of Megan Dusnik (Muskegon/Fruitport), who has committed to attend FSU and play volleyball beginning with the 2004-05 academic year.
A 5-6 setter/defensive specialist, Dusnik earned all-conference, all-area and all-state accolades for the second consecutive season as a senior at Fruitport High School during the 2003-04 campaign. She tallied 1,521 assists, 374 digs, and 76 kills while leading the Trojans to a 58-12 overall record and the program’s third-straight Western Waterways Activities Conference championship in 2003-04.
“Megan is a tough competitor with a fierce desire to succeed,” said Brandel-Wilhelm. “We’re excited for someone with her work ethic and drive to become part of our program at Ferris State.”
Dusnik, who attained academic all-state kudos as a senior, guided FHS to back-to-back Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Class B State Runner-up finishes during the 2001-02 and 2002-03 campaigns under head coach Dan Potts. The 2003-04 team captain netted 960 assists, 237 digs and 73 kills as a junior (2002-03) after previously recording 210 digs, 55 assists and 20 service aces as a sophomore.
Dusnik played USA Volleyball (USAV) for the Team Angle Volleyball Club under head coach Trent Smillie. She also participated in both basketball along with track and field at Fruitport. Besides athletics, Dusnik was active in the National Honor Society and the Spanish Club. She earned both the school’s 2003-04 Student Athlete of the Year and Fruitport Athletic Foundation Awards.
The daughter of Michael and Anita Dusnik, Megan plans to major in advertising at Ferris State. She’s the younger sister of Courtney Dusnik, who plays collegiate volleyball and will be a senior in eligibility this fall at Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) member Lake Superior State.
Dusnik joins Jessica Dezelski (Lake Ann/Traverse City West), Lindsay Johnson (Cadillac), Candice Marut (Pinconning), Emily Nemmers (Caledonia/East Kentwood), Ashley Ollenburger (Charlotte), Lindsay Tye (Gregory/Chelsea) and Andrea Zylstra (Muskegon/Mona Shores) as the Bulldogs’ 2004 recruits to date.
Ferris State compiled the program's sixth consecutive winning campaign with a 15-14 overall record in 2003, including a third-place 12-6 GLIAC North Division finish. The Bulldogs won 12 of their final 18 matches last season and return all 12 of their 2003 squad members for the 2004 campaign.
