May 19, 2002
Sixth-year Ferris State University women’s volleyball head coach Tia Brandel has announced the addition of prep volleyball outside hitter Adrienne Jager (Kalamazoo/Comstock) (pronounced Yea-GUR), who has committed to attend FSU and play volleyball beginning with the 2002-03 academic year.
“Adrienne is a quick and athletic player,” Brandel said. “We are excited to have her join our program and believe she will fit in well with our fast-paced aggressive style of play.”
The 5-9 Jager, who also intends to play softball at FSU, tallied 494 kills, 412 digs and 118 total blocks while leading Comstock High School to a 34-22 overall mark as a senior during the 2001-02 campaign. The third-team 2001-02 Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association (MIVCA) Class B All-State pick garnered first-team 2001-02 All-Wolverine Athletic Conference honors for the second consecutive season.
“Adrienne’s strong competitiveness and outstanding desire to learn will help her have an early impact in her career at Ferris State,” Brandel said.
A four-year letterwinner, Jager added 98 service aces, 46 assists and 27 solo blocks in her final season under head coach Jeff Borr. The honorable mention 2000-01 MIVCA Class B All-State selection led the Colts to two league titles (1999, 2002) and twice (2001-02) served as the team captain.
An honorable mention 2001 Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association (MHSSCA) Division 2 All-State honoree, Jager guided the Colts to a regional tournament appearance and MHSSCA Division 2 All-Academic Team laurels last season (2001) under head coach Jason Porter. The first baseman/outfielder currently serves as team captain for Comstock, which has been ranked in the MHSSCA Division 2 Top 10 poll this campaign. Jager has also been involved in the school’s student volunteer program.
The daughter of Sue Sarters and Brian Jager, Adrienne plans to major in education at Ferris State. She joins Emily Clouse (Tiffin, Ohio/Bascom Hopewell-Loudon) and Brittny Godlewski (St. Clair Township/Marysville) as 2002 FSU women’s volleyball recruits.
Ferris State concluded the 2001-02 campaign with a 21-11 overall mark, which included a fourth-place (North Division) 12-6 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) finish. The Bulldogs will open the 2002 campaign Saturday, Aug. 31, at the Wheeling Jesuit (W.Va.) Invitational in Wheeling, W.Va.
