BRITTNY GODLEWSKI SIGNS WITH FERRIS STATE

Bulldog Volleyball Program Lands Another Talented Recruit For Next Season

May 17, 2002

The Ferris State University women’s volleyball program has signed Brittny Godlewski (St. Clair Township/Marysville) (pronounced God-LEW-ski) to a national letter-of-intent to attend and play volleyball at FSU, starting with the fall 2002 season. The announcement was made by the Bulldogs’ sixth-year head coach Tia Brandel.

“Brittny is a winner and champion in every aspect both on and off the court,” Brandel said. “We are extremely excited to have her join our program.”

A 5-7 outside hitter, Godlewski tallied 381 kills, 488 digs and 52 service aces while leading Marysville High School to a 62-1 overall record and the program’s state record-setting sixth consecutive Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Class B State Championship as a senior during the 2001-02 campaign. The first-team 2001-02 Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association (MIVCA) Class B All-State honoree registered 12 kills and seven digs in the Vikings’ two game (15-6, 15-7) win over Fruitport in the Class B title match (March 16) at University Arena in Kalamazoo, Mich.

“Brittny is quick and tenacious in her play,” Brandel said. “Her athleticism and work ethic will allow her to make an immediate impact in our program.”

A second-team 2001 MIVCA All-State pick, Godlewski was a three-time (1999-2001) academic all-state selection and a first-team 2002 Detroit News All-Metro Volleyball honoree. The Vikings’ 2002 team captain also attained 2002 Port Huron Times Herald Player of the Year accolades and Macomb Area Conference Red Division Co-Most Valuable Player recognition. She led Marysville to its 13th consecutive regional title and 14th straight district championship this past season. During her prep career, the Vikings compiled a 240-3 (.988) overall record under head coach John Knuth.

Godlewski also participated in basketball, softball and track at Marysville. She received both honorable mention all-league basketball and softball laurels (2001) while also garnering basketball Most Improved Player Award honors (2000). Godlewski played club level volleyball for Marysville’s Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) team.

Besides athletics, Godlewski was involved in the school’s Steering Committee, Student Council and the National Honor Society. She served as class treasurer in addition to being named Marysville’s 2001-02 homecoming queen.

The daughter of Ron and Marian Godlewski, Brittny plans to major in business at Ferris State. She joins Emily Clouse (Tiffin, Ohio/Bascom Hopewell-Loudon) as the 2002 FSU women’s volleyball signees to date.

Ferris State finished the 2001-02 campaign with a 21-11 overall mark, including a fourth-place (North Division) 12-6 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) finish. The Bulldogs will open the 2002 campaign Saturday, Aug. 31, at the Wheeling Jesuit (W.Va.) Invitational in Wheeling, W.Va.
