Three current Ferris State University women's volleyball players have received first-team 2002 All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) recognition in an announcement made by the league office Thursday (Nov. 14) in conjunction with the eighth annual conference tournament at Grand Valley State's Fieldhouse Arena in Allendale, Mich.

Senior middle hitter Alaina Olds (Kingsley) was one of three repeat first-team honorees while sophomore setter Ashley Green (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) and senior outside hitter Stephanie Speed (Bothell, Wash.) both garnered first-team kudos for the first time. Freshman libero Brittny Godlewski (St. Clair Township/Marysville) was an honorable mention selection.

Twelve individuals were named to both the first and second teams while 13 others received honorable mention laurels. Ferris was one of two schools with three first-team picks, joining Northwood.

Olds, a first-team 2001 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II All-Great Lakes Region selection, has registered at least one kill in 78 consecutive appearances and has garnered 10 or more kills in 23 of her last 25 matches to date. She tallied a career-best 27 kills and added 12 digs in Ferris' 3-2 league tournament quarterfinal round loss to Gannon Thursday (Nov. 14). The 5-11 Olds, who earned the GLIAC North Division's Player of the Week Award three times this season, has 1,205 career kills to date and presently ranks seventh on Ferris' career kills chart.

A 2001 All-GLIAC Honorable Mention choice, Speed registered her first career triple-double performance Nov. 8 at Saginaw Valley State as she totaled 12 kills, 12 digs and a school single-match record 12 service aces. Speed, who also attained her 900th career dig versus SVSU, presently has 938 career digs and is 62 shy of becoming the 10th player in school history to record 1,000 career digs. She has compiled 10 or more digs in 12 of her last 17 outings to date.

The 5-9 Green notched a personal career-high 70 assists against Gannon while adding 12 digs and nine kills. She presently leads the Bulldogs with 1,286 assists (11.91 apg) and has recorded 2,251 career assists in 218 games (10.33 apg). Green was one of three setters to earn first-team All-GLIAC recognition.

Godlewski, the school's first Libero position player, has attained 249 career digs to date in 29 career appearances. She currently has notched 12 double-figure dig efforts this campaign, including a personal career-high 18 versus Northern Michigan (10/27).

Ferris, which is presently 24-6 overall, could receive one of three at-large NCAA-II Great Lakes Regional Tournament bids. The Bulldogs entered the league tournament ranked second overall in the latest (Nov. 13) NCAA-II Great Lakes Regional rankings. The official regional tournament parings will be announced this Sunday (Nov. 17).
