Nov. 12, 2001

Bulldogs End Season - The Ferris State University women's volleyball team did not receive a bid to compete in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Championships after advancing to the championship match at the 2001 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament this past weekend (Nov. 8-10) in Battle Creek, Mich. The Bulldogs concluded the 2001 campaign with a 21-11 overall mark.

FSU Second at Tourney - Ferris State earned runner-up honors at the seventh annual GLIAC Tournament held at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek, Mich. The Bulldogs defeated Mercyhurst College 3-0 in last Thursday's (Nov. 8) opening round and beat Michigan Tech University 3-2 in Friday's (Nov. 9) semifinal round. FSU fell to GLIAC North Division rival Northwood University 3-0 in Saturday's (Nov. 10) championship match. The Bulldogs posted their fourth-consecutive 20-win campaign and earned tournament runner-up honors for the third time in four seasons (1998, 1999).

Bulldog Players Earn GLIAC Honors - Senior Erin Minnis and junior Alaina Olds garnered first-team 2001 All-GLIAC accolades and were named to the 2001 GLIAC All-Tournament Team this past weekend. Minnis and Olds were among 12 individuals to comprise the first-team all-conference squad. Bulldog junior Stephanie Speed earned honorable mention All-GLIAC recognition.

A first-team 2000 All-GLIAC selection, Minnis became the 11th player in FSU history to eclipse the 1,000 career kills mark against Michigan Tech (Oct. 19). At the conference tournament, Minnis totaled 46 kills, 31 digs and nine total blocks.

Olds, who received GLIAC North Division Player of the Week honors twice this season (Oct. 8 and Oct. 22), led Ferris State with 405 kills (3.49 kpg) this season. Olds registered her ninth double-double outing (kills and digs) against Michigan Tech as she had 18 kills and 13 digs.

No Bid for the Bulldogs - Ferris State was denied a NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Tournament bid on Sunday (Nov. 11). GLIAC North Division rival Grand Valley State was selected as the tournament host and given the top seed. GLIAC South Division champion Findlay earned the second seed. In Thursday's (Nov. 15) opening round, Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) champion Northern Kentucky will face Northern Michigan University and West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion Wheeling Jesuit (W.Va.) will face GLIAC Tournament champion Northwood.

Minnis Ends Stellar Career - Senior Erin Minnis finished her career 11th on the school's career kills chart (1,084 kills). Minnis posted the sixth-best single-season solo block total (38) in school history this year and compiled her 100th career ace last Thursday against Mercyhurst. A 2000 All-Great Lakes Region selection, Minnis became the 11th player in FSU history to eclipse the 1,000 career kills mark Oct. 19 against Michigan Tech. She registered her 750th career dig against Mercyhurst.

Olds Has Strong Season - Junior Alaina Olds led the 2001 squad with 405 kills (3.49 kpg) and 148 total blocks (1.28 bpg). Against Michigan Tech last Friday, Olds tallied her 700th career kill. Olds had her 10-match double-figure kill streak end in Saturday's championship match as she recorded seven kills versus the Timberwolves. In 32 matches this season, Olds reached double-figures in kills 25 times.
