VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO HOST TAMPA IN TOURNEY FINALE

Three Ferris State women's volleyball players tallied 14 kills apiece but it wasn't enough as the Bulldogs suffered a 3-1 loss (22-25, 25-22, 25-18, 27-25) to host and nationally fifth-ranked Tampa this Saturday (Sept. 6) evening in a Tampa Classic match held at Tampa, Fla.

Ferris State, which dropped to 6-3 overall with the loss, posted a .163 hitting percentage while Tampa (6-0 overall) hit at a .200 clip.

Junior outside hitter Katie Edwards (Cedar Springs) along with sophomore middle hitter Arielle Goodson (Grand Rapids/Central) and junior middle hitter Kristy Gilchrist (Macomb/Anchor Bay) all collected 14 kills apiece. Gilchrist proved effective with a .462 attack percentage with just two errors in 26 attempts.

Senior setter-outside hitter Andrea Rich (New Baltimore/Anchor Bay) chipped in with 20 assists and a squad-best 17 digs. Redshirt frosh libero Lisa Tobiczyk (Marysville) provided 11 kills while senior setter-outside hitter Candice Marut (Pinconning) racked up nine digs and had 19 assists.

Ferris State and Tampa both produced 10 total team blocks apiece. Arielle Goodson paced the Bulldogs with six block assists and a block solo for the match.

The Bulldogs concluded the two-day tournament with a 2-2 mark.
