FERRIS CAPTURES HARD-FOUGHT ROAD VICTORY AT ASHLAND

The Ferris State University womenís volleyball team had to go the distance, but the Bulldogs were able to pull out a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Ashland Friday (Oct. 10) night in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action inside AUís Kates Gymnasium at Ashland, Ohio.

The Bulldogs dropped the opening two frames by 25-20 and 26-24 counts before coming back to claim the final three sets by scores of 25-23, 25-23 and 15-10.

The victory was the fifth consecutive win for the Bulldogs.

FSU improved to 12-7 overall and 6-4 in GLIAC play with the win while the Eagles fell to 8-9 overall and 4-6 in conference action.

Bulldog junior outside hitter Katie Edwards (Cedar Springs) paced the Ferris State attack with 15 kills in the match. Freshman outside hitter Ashley Huntey (Stanwood/Morley-Stanwood) added 10 kills while redshirt freshman libero Lisa Tobiczyk (Marysville) posted 23 digs. Senior setter Andrea Rich (New Baltimore/Anchor Bay) tallied 26 assists and 17 digs with sophomore Dana Ruttle (Reed City) chipping in 15 digs.

The Bulldogs hit only .127 for the match, but recorded a .316 hitting figure in the final set. Ferris registered 74 digs, 54 kills, 52 assists and seven total blocks compared to 76 digs, 57 kills, 55 assists and 10 blocks for the Eagles.

Ashlandís Marina Santos had a match-high 24 kills and added 20 digs in the loss. Amanda Stefanski netted 16 kills and Arian Martin totaled 24 digs.
