FERRIS STATE SUCCESSFUL IN 2008 SEASON DEBUT

the Ferris State women's volleyball team opened the 2008 season on a successful note with a 25-17, 25-22, 25-14 sweep of Aquinas this Thursday (Aug. 28) evening at FSU's Ewigleben Sports Arena in Big Rapids, Mich.

The Bulldogs (1-0 overall) won their season opener for the 17 time in the last 19 seasons with the non-conference victory.

Junior middle hitter Sarah Lark (Alma) tallied a career-high 13 kills on .435 hitting while senior outside hitter-setter Andrea Rich (New Baltimore/Anchor Bay) contributed nine kills on .444 hitting as the Bulldogs posted a .222 attack percentage for the match as a result of totaling 41 kills in 99 hitting attempts.

Freshman outside hitter Ashley Huntey (Stanwood/Morley-Stanwood) turned in a solid effort in her Ferris State debut with a match-high tying eight digs to go with three kills. Sophomore middle hitter Arielle Goodson (Grand Rapids/Central) posted eight kills and had two block assists.

Senior setter-outside Candice Marut (Pinconning) and Andrea Rich directed the Bulldogs' offense with 17 and 12 assists, respectively.

Ferris State's defense held Aquinas (1-1 overall) to a .060 hitting percentage as the Saints notched 22 kills in 83 chances while both teams racked up 32 digs apiece.
