FERRIS VOLLEYBALL ADDS GRAND RAPIDS CENTRAL PRODUCT
Middle Hitter Arielle Goodson Announces Decision To Join The Bulldogs
The Ferris State University women's volleyball program has added yet another talented recruit as middle hitter Arielle Goodson (Grand Rapids/Central) recently inked with the Bulldogs during the spring signing period and will join the program for the fall 2007 campaign. The announcement was made by head coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm, who will embark on her 12th season at the helm this coming year.
The 6-2 Goodson led Grand Rapids Central High School in all statistical categories en route to being named team Most Valuable Player for the second-straight year as a senior in 2006-07. She earned all-city honors for the third consecutive campaign and was an all-area choice two years in a row under prep head coach Alyssa Trevino.
"Arielle is extremely athletic and has a long volleyball build," Brandel-Wilhelm said. "She has great leadership skills and a team-oriented personality. With her strong work ethic, we expect her to become an amazing volleyball player during her career at Ferris State."
Goodson served as the Rams' team captain her final two seasons despite not playing volleyball until her freshman year in high school at the Grand Rapids City League school. Besides volleyball, she also played varsity basketball as a prepster for Grand Rapids Central.
In addition to athletics, Goodson participated in a variety of school activities. She was honored as the school's homecoming queen, mock rock winner and served on the Principal's Student Advisory Board. Goodson also spent time volunteering for the United Way.
"I think Ferris is a good environment for me academically and the other players on the team made me feel welcome," Goodson told the Grand Rapids Press in a recent article. "I'm really excited and can't wait to graduate."
The daughter of Derek and Gwendolyn Goodson, Arielle plans to major in pre-medicine at Ferris State.
"We're excited to have someome of Arielle's character and athletic potential join our program," said Brandel-Wilhelm.
Goodson joins prep outside hitter Ashley Nugent (Jackson/Northwest), middle/outside hitter Susan “Danielle” Hamilton (Galesburg/Galesburg-August) and libero/defensive specialist Lisa Tobiczyk (Marysville) as FSU's incoming recruits to date for the 2007 campaign.
The Ferris State women’s volleyball squad posted a 21-9 overall record and reached the NCAA-II Tournament for the 14th time in school history this past fall. FSU also posted its eighth 20-win campaign in the last nine years to date while reaching the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Postseason Tournament for the ninth consecutive year.
