DANIELLE BAUCHER RECEIVES LEAGUE HONOR AGAIN THIS WEEK

Ferris State Senior Picks Up GLIAC Divisional Award For Second Time This Year

For the second time in three weeks, Ferris State University senior outside hitter Danielle Baucher (Kalamazoo/Mattawan) has been recognized as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division Player of the Week in an announcement made Monday (Oct. 2) by the league office.

Baucher tallied a team-high 31 kills along with 33 digs, eight blocks and three service aces as Ferris swept two league home outings this past weekend (Sept. 29-30) at the Ewigleben Sports Arena in Big Rapids. She had both a match-high 24 kills and 26 digs in FSU's 3-1 triumph over Gannon Saturday (Sept. 30). Baucher also added three aces and five block assists in the outing. The 5-10 Baucher totaled seven kills, seven digs and three blocks in Ferris' 3-0 shutout over Mercyhurst Friday (Sept. 29) evening. She averaged 4.43 kills and 4.71 digs per outing in Ferris' two matches over the weekend.

Danielle Baucher This week's honor marks the second time in her career Baucher has attained GLIAC Weekly Award laurels as she was previously recognized two weeks ago (Sept. 18). She is one of two Bulldog players to receive the honor this campaign as senior middle hitter Karla White (New Baltimore/Anchor Bay) earned the distinction earlier (Sept. 5) this year.

This season, Baucher became the 14th player in school history to notch 1,000 career kills and only the sixth Bulldog player ever to record both 1,000 career kills and digs in Ferris’ season-opening home win over St. Joseph’s (Aug. 24). The 5-10 currently has 1,286 career kills and ranks eighth on the school's career leaders list. Her 1,414 career digs presently is listed third in school history and is five away from matching Brittny Godlewski's (2002-05) second-place mark of 1,419 digs on Ferris' all-time chart. She needs 55 digs to tie Janna Biggs' (1985-88) school-record total of 1,469 digs.

Baucher ranks as Ferris' overall kills (4.36 kpg) leader this season along with second in digs (3.53 dpg). She is presently listed second in both kills (4.36 kpg) and points (5.12 ppg) this season among the league's overall statistical leaders as of Monday (Oct. 2).

The 5-10 Baucher, who was a first-team All-GLIAC honoree last season, registered at least 10 kills and 10 digs in 18 of her last 21 outings during the 2005 campaign. She totaled a team-high 408 kills along with 452 digs last campaign en route to receiving Daktronics Second-Team and AVCA Honorable Mention All-Great Lakes Region accolades. Baucher guided Ferris State to the school's 13th overall NCAA Division II Tournament appearance and a 22-10 overall record last year.

Ferris State, which currently holds a 15-3 overall mark and is 7-2 in league play, has won six of its last seven outings to date this season. The Bulldogs will host archrival and defending NCAA Division II National Champion Grand Valley State Tuesday, Oct. 3, in a 7 p.m. (EDT) league contest inside FSU's Ewigleben Sports Arena. GVSU is ranked first nationally in this week's (Oct. 2) CSTV/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II Top 25 Poll.

The nationally top-ranked Lakers presently are first (9-0) in the GLIAC North Division with Ferris second (7-2) entering the match. Bulldog fans are encouraged to wear either yellow or gold shirts for the match and a near-capacity crowd is expected to attend.

Following Tuesday's match, Ferris will then square off against nationally ninth-ranked and currently unbeaten Hillsdale Friday, Oct. 6, starting at 5:30 p.m. (EDT) before taking on Wayne State Saturday, Oct. 7, with match time set for 4 p.m. (EDT). Both league encounters will be in Big Rapids.
