The Ferris State University women's volleyball team held its 2006 postseason awards banquet Sunday, Dec. 3, at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Conference Center in Big Rapids, Mich.

Ferris State wrapped up the 2006 campaign with a 21-9 overall mark and made the program's 14th all-time NCAA Division II National Tournament appearance under head coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm. FSU posted a second-place 12-6 record in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division action this campaign. The squad's 21 wins this season represented the eighth time in the last nine years the Bulldogs have notched 20 or more victories.

Senior outside hitter Danielle Baucher (Kalamazoo/Mattawan) was afforded the squad's highest individual honor in being chosen as the team Most Valuable Player Award recipient. The 5-10 Baucher, who was an All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) First Team honoree this campaign, concluded her Bulldog career with a school-record 1,559 career digs along with 1,492 kills, which presently ranks sixth on the school’s career kills leaders list. Baucher, who ranked as Ferris' overall kills (4.45 kpg) leader this season along with second in digs (3.41 dpg), became the 14th player in school history to notch 1,000 career kills and only the sixth Bulldog player ever to record both 1,000 career kills and digs in Ferris’ season-opening home win over St. Joseph’s (Aug. 24). She was four service aces away from matching Kathy O’Connor’s (1990-93) fifth-place career mark of 171 aces at FSU.

A team captain, Baucher ranked among the GLIAC's overall leaders in kills, points and service aces this season. She picked up all-conference first team recognition for the second straight season while twice being named GLIAC North Division Player of the Week this campaign. Baucher tallied 10 kills or more in 27 of her 30 outings this season and reached double-figures in digs 23 times. Earlier this year, she was named to the Ferris State Invitational All-Tournament Team. Recently, Baucher also claimed both American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and Daktronics All-Great Lakes Region First Team accolades.

The team's Bulldog Award, which is annually presented for displaying the heart and desire of a Bulldog, was given to junior libero Jamie Palazzolo (Emmett/Yale). A 2006 All-GLIAC Honorable Mention honoree, Palazzolo led the Bulldogs in digs with 449 this season. She netted more than 10 digs in 24 of FSU's 30 outings this season and tallied 20 or more digs in six contests. The 5-7 Palazzolo, who's only the second player in Bulldog history to ever wear the libero uniform, has totaled 756 career digs in 86 outings to date.

Finally, sophomore setter Candice Marut (Pinconning) and freshman outside hitter Amanda Kettlewell (St. Clair/Marysville) both received the team's Coaches Award. Marut netted a team-best 720 assists in 101 games this season while appearing in 29 matches. She also added 157 digs, 54 kills, 32 blocks and 10 service aces. Currently, Marut has recorded 1,082 assists along with 281 digs and 93 kills in her Bulldog career. Previously, Marut was honored as the squad's Bulldog Award winner during her redshirt season in 2004. As a freshman this year, Kettlewell saw action in 19 matches and had nine digs, eight kills, eight assists and two aces in 29 games played.

Ferris State recorded the program's ninth consecutive winning campaign this year and the 2006 season marked the 26th-straight year the Bulldogs have reached double-figures in victories. The Bulldogs advanced to the GLIAC Tournament for the ninth year in a row this campaign.
