1998 Women's Outdoor Track Notes
May 19
Senior Trisha Sustarich finished second in the high jump (5-6.5) at the Baldwin-Wallace Twilight Meet, May 15, in Berea, Ohio. Her leap is an NCAA Division II national championship provisional qualifying jump.
May 4
Ferris placed fifth out of nine teams at the 1998 GLIAC Outdoor Track Championships, May 1, at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. Freshman Michelle Terry won the GLIAC championship in the 800-meter run at 2:17.21. She also won the GLIAC Indoor title in the 800-meters this season with a league-record time of 2:16.95. Terry finished her rookie season with a total of four GLIAC championship medals (including the indoor mile in a league-record time of 5:10.82 and as the anchor runner for the Bulldogs' 3,200-meter indoor relay champion).
April 27
The Bulldogs participated in the non-scoring Hillsdale Relays, April 24-25. Freshman Tianna Kirkland placed second in the shot put with a school-record throw of 43-2.11. Kirkland previously owned a share of the school record with her throw of 42-3.5 at the Saginaw Valley Open, April 10. . .Freshman Jill Newberry ran a personal-best time of 1:05.71 in the 400-meter hurdles to finish third at the Hillsdale Relays.
April 20
FSU placed fourth with 57 points at the 18th annual Saginaw Valley Invitational, April 18. Senior Trisha Sustarich won both the triple jump (35-2.25) and the high jump (5-2) events. Freshman Michelle Terry placed first in the 800-meter run at 2:19.4. Freshmen Jill Newberry and Tianna Kirkland finished second in the 400-meter hurdles (1:07.43) and the shot put (39-9), respectively.
April 13
The Bulldogs placed sixth at the Saginaw Valley Cardinal Open, April 10. Senior Trisha Sustarich won the high jump (5-2) and finished second in triple jump (34-10.75). Freshman Tianna Kirkland tied a school record in the shot put with a second place throw of 42-3.5. Sophomore Kiesha Jones placed second in the 800 meters at 2:20.08.
April 6
Freshman Tianna Kirkland was the Bulldogs' top performer at the Northwest Ohio Track and Field Classic in Bowling Green (April 3-4) with a third place throw in the shot put (41-11.5). Freshman Michelle Terry clocked a 4:54.78 in the 1500 meters to place fourth.
